People don’t want to see parties formed using money and power: Jonayed Saki
The chief coordinator of the mass solidarity movement, Jonayed Saki, said, “After the mass uprising, people want to see real leadership to continue the fight. They don’t want to see people who have formed a party using money and power. Even today’s Turkish youth, many of them, did not expect that they would get involved in this mess. People want to have hope.” Jonayed Saki said this in his speech as the main discussant at the labor leader’s ‘Late Mirza Abul Bashar Memorial Meeting’ at the July Memorial Hall of the Chittagong Press Club on Friday evening.

At the meeting, he spoke on the reforms of various institutions, including the constitution. He said, “Even though everyone has not yet reached a consensus on the desired reforms, there is room for progress. Again, there are some differences. There is no point in minimizing the progress. Again, we have to prepare for a fight to implement the issues on which there are differences, the issues that we consider urgent and essential for establishing democracy in this country. People want that fight. People want true democracy to be established in this country in exchange for their blood.’
Mirza Abul Bashar Smriti Parishad organized this memorial meeting. Mirza Abul Bashar, former president of Chittagong District Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union and Joint Executive Coordinator of the Chittagong District of the Gana Sanghati Andolan, passed away on December 7 last year at the age of 65. This meeting was organized to pay tribute to him. Jonayed Saki discussed Mirza Abul Bashar’s political philosophy and work process. He said, Mirza Abul Bashar was a very honest and wise leader. He fought for the hardworking people till his death. Many take up many professions, take vows in life, set duties, work for change. Today’s youth will respond to the call to fulfill this duty. They will not be defeated by the power of money or power, but will survive by confronting it.
